Hackett’s 50th Birthday will be celebrated at the Hackett Shops over the 21-22 September 2013 weekend. The celebrations will commence at 10 am on the Saturday and conclude at 4 pm on the Sunday.
The celebrations will be officially launched at 12 noon on the Saturday by Ms Robyn Archer, Centenary of Canberra Creative Director. The launch ceremony will include the singing of ‘Happy Birthday Hackett’ by local pre-school children and the cutting of the birthday cake.
The Canberra City Band’s John Agnew Band will be playing immediately after the cake cutting and a number of local representatives will also be attending.
A Reminiscing Corner with photographs of early photos will provide an opportunity for present and past residents to recall earlier times in the suburb.
There will be stalls selling books, craft items and food together with kid’s activities including a jumping castle, face painting and a visit by Constable Kenny Koala.
During the course of each day there will be live performances by dance groups, school groups and street entertainers. There will also be live music by various bands and a local DJ from 5 to 10 pm on the Saturday.
Other local activities include:
- Hackett Preschool garage sale on the Saturday;
- Saint Vincent de Paul’s Samaritan House (adjacent to Hackett Shops) Open House 10 am – 4 pm Saturday with tea, coffee and scones; and
- Blue Gum Community School ‘Slow Sunday’ from 11am to 1pm on 22 September to highlight the importance of SLOWING DOWN to savour all the good things around us.
In previous Birthday Parties we have attracted thousands of people and we are anticipating similar numbers for this birthday party.
It will also be a particularly memorable year for the Mount Majura region as our Watson neighbours will also be celebrating their 50th birthday on Saturday 16 November 2013.
